Pat and I worked together at TWA and I
was there from their beginning. I
remember her telling me about the great guy she had met. I felt she was smitten
from the beginning by the way she was talking about him. When she really knew
it was “serious” the three of us drove to Sioux Falls so that Gerry could meet
the family. What an interesting trip! We were side swiped in Iowa and thanks to
Gerry’s quick reaction no harm was done but it was scary! Then there was Sioux
Falls! Pat had fixed me up with a friend and we went out on the “town” Saturday
night. It was my first introduction to weird liquor laws. I had never bought a
bottle in a brown bag and taken it with me to a cabaret (of sorts). Let’s just
say that was Liquor 101 that prepared me for Kansas Liquor 102! Maybe that’s
why I gave up drinking so many years ago just too hard to get a drink!
When Gerry was away in the military I
would visit Pat & Greg, who was a little boy at the time. He had just
started talking. He couldn’t say “S” and therefore, I was dubbed “Chu”. I told
a fellow TWA friend about my new name and to this day she and her husband still
call me Chu. (Jan & Lou Wipotnik)
When I was married Pat and Gerry embraced
my new husband and we visited them in South Bend. When we celebrated our 1st
anniversary they came up to the Chicago area, kids in tow, and helped us
celebrate. They have visited with us in the Kansas City area where we still
live.
We have remained friends through these 50 years and then some. To both of you from both of us---our congratulations, best wishes and many more!
