Happy Anniversary from The Flynn Family

Laughter and adventure always come to mind when I think of Aunt Pat and Uncle Gerry.

As a kid I remember chasing Dominic through the north end and Terrace Park when these crazy relatives visited Sioux Falls.  Then we visited the Taylor clan in New Jersey and had a real adventure.  Uncle Gerry grilled out, we played street hockey with the neighborhood kids and all of us frolicked at the beach. Oh, and Tim and I got stuck in a revolving door in the World Trade Center while Grandma Ruth prayed the rosary. That always makes a good story.

As an adult they have always been there to offer support and encouragement.  They shared hints about making friends in new places (which they are exceptionally good at), cooking/ grilling and entertaining.  Recently they came to visit our home in Rapid City and we had a wonderful time.  We are always happy to see them and admire the love they have for each other and life.

Happy Anniversary Gerry and Pat.  We love you both.

Happy 50th Anniversary from Sylvia Linta

An 50th Anniversary Spelling Lesson from Toni Taylor

Best Wishes from Brother #6, Paul Cappelli

Dear Pat and Gerry,

Congratulations on your 50th wedding anniversary. I do not think that we will see too many 50 years of marriage today or in the future. What an admirable accomplishment- Congrats.

I would also thank both of you and Pat for your support throughout the years. You were both the first family members that I had met and I know that both of you (as well, Greg and Tim) were the link to the Taylor Family and I cannot help but feel that you had many questions about me from the family (especially from Momma Ta). I always knew I had both of your support and I thank you for all it.

I guess we did okay with all of this and Toni and I have been together since 1979 and married in 1988.

You both remain an excellent example to us and to many of your friends and family.

Best wishes, love,

Brother 6, Paul

Happy Anniversary from Marilyn & John McEntyre

Dear Pat and Gerry,

What a lovely occasion for all of us to recognize what a gift to the community a long, companionable, happy marriage is.  Many of us have enjoyed the fruits of your rich, lovely life together.

I remember first meeting you when Elizabeth and Tim were staying at your place after the Northridge earthquake.  You served us your wonderful cheese grits and showed us pictures of the boys and told stories.  It was clear that Elizabeth was not only held in Tim’s good hands, but also in yours.  Your affection for her warmed my heart then, and does now.

On another occasion, watching the Times Square New Year’s ball drop with the four of you (before little boys), I remember how fun it was to spend the long evening telling and hearing stories, and the ease of being with you both where nothing about the festivity was forced.  You did, and do—despite our infrequent meetings—feel like family.

On family occasions when we’ve met—for weddings, for holiday gatherings, for births and baptisms, for basketball games—we’ve always looked forward to finding our way through the crowd to talk with one or both of you.  We’re always assured of a good story, warm interest in our lives and the “kids,’” and great kindness.

The range of the interests you support in each other, and have supported in Tim and Greg, testifies to your own shared openness to the world—to music, to sports, to travel, to wide reading, to neighbors of all kinds and their stories.  Visiting you in your present home, walking through the streets at Christmastime to see neighbors’ lights, I remember being struck and touched by your lively engagement with the community you’d so recently joined.

You’ve raised sons who are men of integrity, caring fathers and loving husbands.  That in itself is evidence enough of what you modeled for them, and continue to model for Stephen and Matthew and Gabriel and Michael.

We’re terribly sorry to miss the party for you; we had planned our trip some time before we heard about it.  But know that we are there in spirit, very grateful to be co-grandparents with you, hopeful that we’ll actually find time to get together soon, and full of admiration for the way you’ve done these decades together.

With love and gratitude for the light you bear,

Marilyn and John

Congratulations from Tom & Somphan Adams

Greetings Gerry and Pat,

Fifty years as one, you have set the bar for many youngsters that are following in your footsteps!

Two very special people celebrating their path through life as one.  We salute both of you for this memorable occasion.  Your arrival at this milestone should continue to show all of us the uniqueness of this celebration.  Your life continues to show others the "how to" in meaningfulness of marriage.

It was always a great experience to travel to Sioux Falls in the summertime on the Hiawatha to visit all of our aunts, uncles and cousins.  Pat always made it special in every way and along with her sisters, made our stays exciting.  Those years will always stand out in my memory and I am thankful for having a cousin like Pat to show the "city boy" the fresh air and blue skies that were her home.

Congratulations to both of you.  Always with love and hugs,

Tom and Somphan Adams

Happy Anniversary from Gloria Mills

Pat is my cousin (our mothers were sisters) and I have known her since I was a child. My parents, Ed and Olive Adams, lived just outside of Chicago in Wood Dale, IL, when Pat first came to the Windy City to work for TWA. She spent some time at our house before she got settled in a place of her own and visited often after that. I remember envying her the opportunity to be able to work for an airline and travel to distant places.
I first met Gerry when Pat brought him to dinner at our home to meet my family while they were still dating. They were a perfect match even then, and whenever they visited, there were always stories and laughter around the dinner table. Though we have not been able to be together often throughout the years, the intervening time seems to vanish whenever we do meet -- and the stories and laughter around the dinner table continue on.
I was able to travel with Pat and one of my nieces to some of the eastern European countries a few years ago. It was a wonderful trip and a great opportunity for my niece to spend time with a cousin who has her head and her heart in the right place, knows how to meet the world straight on, and enjoys the absurdities life throws at us from time to time.

My heartfelt congratulations go out to Pat and Gerry on their 50th wedding anniversary. May this day be one of great happiness for them and a celebration of the joy and love they have brought into the lives of their families and friends.

Enjoy A Fantastic Day from Phyllis Telefsen-Cora

How wonderful of you boys to plan this party for your parents.  I know how proud they are of you...your Mom's Christmas letters have kept me informed.

It was your Mother I met through TWA | Chicago.  I started January 1956 in reservations but transferred to the CTO at Wabash & Monroe St.  We worked together there until I transferred to O'Hare Field.  We have kept in touch all these year.  I love it!

Sometimes after work a small group would go to the Italian Village restaurant, downstairs to La Cantina (incidentently I was just there May 9th - more memories) and we would stand around the piano singing the Broadway tunes...there was Betty Foley, Bill Barcus, Pat and her room (B/4 Dad) Dee Keller and Sylvia.

I believe it was 1979 Oct/Nov., my Mother and I were in Canada for an OES (Order of the Eastern Star) meeting and we stayed with "you all" in Mississauga.

Your Mom & Dee came out to Northwest side to my parents home for a week at one time.

Those were the Good 'ol Days that we all remember, no way is it similar anymore.

Thanks so much for including me in the surprise - wish I could be there and I will toast them from here.

Enjoy a Beautiful, Fantastic Day.

Love to All,

Phyllis
